How to Extend the Life of Rechargeable Batteries in Outdoor Sports?

Nowadays, with the continuous development of science and technology, our daily lives are full of electrical equipment such as smart phones, tablets, cameras, etc. For outdoor enthusiasts, we all hope to return to nature during travel. As a Roof Top Tent Suppliers, share with you.

However, mobile phones, flashlights and other equipment are also indispensable. And this brings a problem that cannot be ignored-how to extend the service life of rechargeable batteries.

Temperature characteristics: Since the migration rate of rechargeable batteries in the electrolyte and electrode sheets are closely related to temperature, fluctuations in temperature will significantly affect the technical performance of rechargeable batteries.

Storage temperature: Under normal circumstances, the battery has liquid inside, and long-term storage at low temperatures will destroy the internal chemical substances of the battery. Therefore, it is recommended that the storage temperature should not be lower than -20 ℃ under conditions; and too high temperature will also cause damage. The battery cannot reach its rated capacity. Generally, the storage temperature should not be higher than 40°C.

The normal storage temperature of rechargeable batteries is -20℃~+65℃. When the temperature drops below -20℃, the electrolyte in the battery will solidify, the internal resistance of the battery will become infinite, and the battery will become unusable.

When the temperature exceeds +65°C, the electrolyte will undergo side reactions and produce a lot of gas, and the resin adhesive in the electrode sheet will also deteriorate, which will cause the entire battery to gradually age and decline, and even fail in the short term.

Charging temperature: Under normal circumstances, the charging temperature is between 0°C and 45°C.

Discharge temperature: In general, the discharge temperature is -20℃~65℃; but in some special cases, low-temperature batteries and high-temperature batteries can be used. The battery pack is generally discharged before leaving the factory to prevent short circuit due to shock or other reasons during transportation. Usually, the new battery is not charged or only contains about 20% of the power.

A new battery or a battery that has not been used for a long time may not be fully activated due to the active material. It generally needs two or three cycles of low current (0.1C) charge and discharge treatment before use to reach the nominal capacity. Batteries that are not used for a long time should be stored in a charged state. Generally, they can be stored after pre-charging 50% to 100% of the power. It is recommended to charge the battery once every three months to restore the saturated capacity.

Indian Canvas Tent

Indian Canvas Tent

Canvas tents come with a higher price tag (and weight) than tradition nylon tents, but the benefits are vast. The sustainability, weather reliance, spaciousness, durability, strength, and breathability of a canvas tent have made these tents the choice of seasoned outdoor travelers for centuries.

The durability and beauty of canvas are the primary reasons that those spending longer periods of time sleeping outdoors choose Indian Canvas tents.

Are Cotton Tents For You?

 Cotton Tents

Good quality cotton is regarded as perhaps the best tent fabric. With a long lifespan that easily justifies its initial cost, cotton is a great investment when compared with a synthetic tent, which has much higher depreciation.

Waterproof Properties of Cotton

Normal synthetic tents have a waterproof coating applied to them. Unlike these, as a natural fibre, cotton’s waterproof properties arise from its ability to absorb water and then swell to fill the gaps in the weave, preventing any water from penetrating the fabric. In addition to this, a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) can be applied to allow rain to bead and roll off the fabric’s outer.

Weathering Cotton

It is good camping practice to weather a new cotton tent before use or after a long spell of storage. You soak the tent either by rain or the use of a hose. It is then left to dry naturally before repeating the process several times.
This ‘activates’ the cotton fibres, allowing them to swell and contract. Some densely woven cotton does not require weathering, though it does remain good camping practice as it allows you to check out the tent’s seams and practice pitching before a new tent is used for a holiday.

TOP TIP

Seams are not actually sealed. The thread swells when wet to fill the needle holes. Any long term drips from slightly oversized holes can be cured by a dab of a seam sealant.

Reproofing is not supposed to be a regular part of maintenance. Instead it should only be done if the tent fabric shows signs of leakage or wear.

Cotton Maintenance

Things such as dirt, detergent, oil and grease may damage a fabric and will impact the way cotton reacts to water.
Remove bird lime, oil and grease immediately, clean the area and, if necessary, re-proof.
TOP TIP
Cotton is high maintenance and a tent has to be thoroughly cleaned and dried before packing away if you’re to avoid mildew. Store in a cool, well ventilated place away from vermin.
Try not to touch the sides of any cotton Canvas tent when it is raining as the body oils may allow water to pass through the fabric.

Is cotton for you?

Cotton is the perfect material for those who want a high quality camping experience. The weave allows water vapour to pass through the fabric to eliminate condensation. Combined with the extra weight and insulation you get that highly appreciated ‘air conditioning’ effect throughout the year. Long life and high resale values add to the attraction.
